Acne VS Pimple

Acne and Pimple are a skin problem that often experienced by many people. Acne and Pimple appear due to several factors; such as hormone imbalance or improper diet. Although they are included in the same skin problems, Acne and Pimple have a difference.

Acne is a chronic skin condition that occurs due to clogged hair follicles by dead skin cells and sebum (the skin's natural oil) while Pimple is the type of the lesion or skin inflammation. The following is a further clarification regarding the difference between Acne and Pimple:

What is Acne? 


Acne is a chronic skin condition that occurs when hair follicles clogged with dead skin cells and sebum, which is secreted by the sebaceous glands.

Just like the Pimple, Acne commonly occurs among teenagers due to hormonal changes and increased production of androgens during puberty. Genetic factors can be the major cause of Acne. In addition, bacteria, known as "Propionibacterium Acne" may cause irritation on the skin and causes acne.

Acne usually appears on the face, upper chest and back. A person experiencing this skin condition will frequently have the kind of acne comedones, papules, pustules, nodules and scarring where the color will vary according to the pattern of the skin.

Changing lifestyles to become healthier, do the Acne Treatment (laser, chemical peels) or using drugs is the best way to overcome Acne. Reduce consumption of sugary foods, carbonated beverages and oils are also highly recommended.

If the suspected primary cause is infection, antibiotics and retinoids will be the right treatment for the use of oral and topical.

What is a Pimple? 


Pimple is a small papule or pustule caused by excessive production of sebum that causes clogged pores and infected resulting in red lesions, swollen and full of pus. Papule or pustule usually appears on the face, neck, back and shoulders. This condition is more likely to occur during puberty because of hormonal changes occur suddenly in the body resulting in an increase in sebum production. In addition, environmental factors and the bacteria have a big effect because it can cause an infection so the pimple is worsening. According to recent studies, about 80% of teenagers who are experiencing acne are mostly women.

Although bad pimple has no effect on the health and do not result in severe complications, but you should still seek medical advice before your acne becomes more severe and lead to psychological problems such as being not confident, avoiding social interaction and more.

The following is a tip to help reduce or control the pimple:


  • Consume a balanced meal 
  • Wash your face twice a day and stay properly hydrated 
  • Avoid touching or squeezing pimples because it can cause deep scarring. 
  • Avoid using makeup and facial creams that contain ingredients that are hard and acidic. 
  • Clean makeup properly, we recommend that you use the cleanser. 


Materials such as resorcinol and salicylic acid are known for good material to overcome acne. This material can be found easily in a gel, cream, lotion or soap. It is very important to use it in the doctor's supervision because it has side effects such as allergy, skin irritation, dry skin, redness or a burning sensation.
